Xavier School (originally known as XAVIER KUANG CHI) was established in 1955 by Jesuit missionaries for the Chinese-Filipino students to “build a bridge” between Chinese Filipinos and Filipinos and reintegrate them back to their Chinese heritage”. It was registered with the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) as a non-stock, non-profit educational organization on August 29, 1955. It first opened in Echague on June 6, 1956. In 1959, the Echague property was sold, and a 7-hectare lot in San Juan was purchased. In December of the same year, the school, now named Xavier School (XS) , moved to its present location in San Juan. It primarily aims to be a “leading Catholic school for Chinese Filipinos”.
Fr. Johnny Go, S.J. became the first Xavier alumnus (XS Class ‘79) to be appointed as School Director in 2000. The community underwent a process of consultation to reformulate the school’s Vision, Mission, and Goals. The 6 Cs (Competence, Culture, Compassion, Conscience, Character and Community) were formulated as the school’s core values.
In 2010, Xavier School was accredited as an IB World School with its International Baccalaureate (IB)Diploma Program. It was also granted Level III Accreditation by PAASCU.
The current President, Fr. Aristotle C. Dy, S.J. was installed as the sixth School President in 2013 and the second alumnus (XS Class ‘89) to hold this position.
