The Uygongco Foundation, Inc. (UFI) takes inspiration from the work of Dr. Alfonso Uy who steered his family’s La Filipina Uy Gongco Corporation[1] (LFUGC) to become the largest trading firm in Iloilo. His NGO involvements and civic organization memberships inspired him to established a foundation, thus, the birth of UFI. It was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as a non-stock, non-profit corporation on April 30, 2008. It is the Corporate Social Responsibility of the La Filipina Uy Gongco Group of Companies (who owns and controls 22 companies). Its main office is located at Tiu Gan Building, Arroyo St., Brgy. Yulo/Arroyo, Iloilo City. The foundation has 8 regular staff, 5 volunteers and 9 members of the Board of Trustees.
It was first certified for 1 year on April 7, 2011 and which ended on March 2, 2012. First Renewal was for 3 years on August 9, 2012 and ended on June 8, 2015. Second Renewal was certified for 5 years on June 5, 2015 and which will end on March 31, 2020.
Its purposes (V-M-G), among others, are “to develop host communities of La Filipina Uy Gongco group of Companies that are empowered, productive and self-sustaining through education; to serve as the catalyst, provide opportunities, instill values for learning and build good citizenship in the host communities; and access to education, motivation to stay in school, improve quality of educational facilities and teaching”. The Foundation’s programs/projects focused on the following areas: (1) Access to Education (financial assistance, skills training, Alternative Learning System, Scholarship Program for Tertiary); (2) Motivation to Stay in School (feeding program, formation); (3) Improve Quality of Educational Facilities and Teaching (Instructional Materials Improvement program, School facilities improvement, Teacher’s Training). Geographical scope of programs: Iloilo City, Capiz, and Guimaras.
