The SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION FOUNDATION INC. (SWCFI) was registered with the SEC as a non-stock, non-profit corporation on March 8, 1988. It started in 1985 as an informal network of individuals of various nationalities concerned with the global ecological challenge and the necessity of broad-based local initiatives to respond to that challenge. Upon its incorporation in 1988, it started small scale support of existing projects of DENR and the Ford Foundation/World Neighbors supported farm extension programs in Cebu by providing inputs for farm-based species trials and consultancy services to enhance the technical and management capabilities of project staff and extension workers. It is an operating foundation. Its main office is located at 101-L Elizabeth Pond St., Kamputhaw, Cebu City.
Its purposes (V-M-G), among others, are: “to assist people and communities promote natural and human resources development through implementation of activities, projects and programs that are participatory, cooperative, community-based and sustainable. Endeavors are designed to be technologically appropriate, culturally sensitive, economically viable and socially acceptable while creating a more ecologically sound and sustainable environment.
The Foundation’s program/project is now focused on Advocacy and Environmental Education; Natural Resources Management; Governance, Biodiversity Conservation/Protection and Information Systems; and Protected Area Management/Karst Management for Water and Biodiversity Conservation. Current programs are in Bohol and in the City of Cebu.
