The PHILIPPINE SUGAR RESEARCH INSTITUTE FOUNDATION, INC.(PHILSURIN) is a duly organized and existing organization, was registered with the SEC, as a non-stock, non-profit corporation on August 11, 1995. It is a private sector initiative created through the efforts of the National Council of Sugar Producers responsible for sugarcane research, development and extension activities as mandated under Executive Order no. 18 of May 28, 1986. Its main office is located at 14th Floor Security Bank Centre, 6776 Ayala Avenue, Makati City. The Foundation has thirty-six (36) regular staff, one (1) part-time staff and seventeen (17) members of the Board of Trustees. Its purposes (V-M-G), among others, are: “It aims to be the leading research and development institution of the Sugarcane Industry in Asia, by providing relevant, efficient and cost effective R, D and E services to the Philippine sugarcane industry. Its goals are to promote, facilitate, and coordinate the efforts of the sugar planters, millers and workers relating to research and development in the sugar industry. To encourage or undertake extension and support activities and to promote the development and enhancing the viability and global competitiveness of the sugar industry towards improving the lot of everyone involved in said industry. It was certified for 5 years on August 22, 2007 which ended on August 21, 20102.
The Foundation’s program/project is now focused on: 1. Research and Development (Crop Improvement Program, Pathology and Entomology-pest and disease management , Geographical Information System exact location for planting sugarcane, Analytical Laboratory-soil analysis, etc.) 2. Mill District Development Council Related.
