The HOPE (Helping Other People Everywhere) Worldwide Philippines, Inc., a faith- based NGO, was founded in 1991 by the International Churches of Christ evangelist, Bob Gempel. Its initial program was the conduct of advocacy on children’s rights and protection through its mobile medical clinic roving around different depressed communities in Metro Manila. It was eventually registered with the SEC as a non-stock, non-profit Organization on January 28, 1993. Its head office is located at the Center of Hope, Coastal Road Barangay Dela Paz Binan, Laguna. HOPE has 33 regular staff, 12 volunteers and 5 board of trustees
Its vision is “to bring hope and change the lives of the poor, sick and suffering.” It is committed to deliver sustainable, high impact community based services to the poor and the needy, through its five core programs and services:
a) Protection – this includes provision of temporary shelter to sexually abused and children in especially difficult circumstances. Other protective services include treatment and case management; foster care; independent living and family reintegration; advocacy and prevention of child abuse.
b) Education – sponsorship for children’s pre-school, elementary and high school education; computer literacy and resource; mentoring, tutorials and alternative learning system.
c) Health – essential nutrition; life support program for children with diabetes; medical and dental missions.
d) Disaster Risk Reduction and Management – psycho-social support;, disaster response and recovery;, capacity building, relief and logistic; child protection.
e) Family and Community Development – livelihood support; shelter and community development projects; community organizing and trainings on family development.
The geographical scope of the Program is Nationwide. Currently, it has seven (7) “Centers of Hope” in the various regions of the country which are located in Manila, Quezon City, Laguna, Aklan, Cebu, Tacloban and Ormoc.
Hope was issued by the DSWD a Registration Certificate and License to Operate as a Social Welfare Development Agency implementing Residential Care and Community Based Program and Services for Children and Youth.
It was first certified as donee institution for three years on September 10, 2008 which ended on September 9, 2011. On its first renewal, it was certified for five (5) years on September 13, 2013 which ended on September 12, 2018.
