The Diwa ng Magdalo[1] Foundation, Inc. (DMFI) was founded by members of the Bagong Katipuneros, who were later on called as the Magdalo Group, to advance their advocacy in promoting good governance and social justice towards the betterment of our country.[2] “It portrays a vital role to concretize the group’s vision of having peaceful, progressive and prosperous country with a united Filipino citizenry”. It was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as a non-stock, non-profit organization on June 29, 2011. As a “tool in influencing societal change”, DMFI introduced their Scholarship Program to deserving college students from the University of the Philippines (UP) and other state universities who are taking up courses geared towards public service professions. It is an organization operating to provide direct assistance to poor but deserving students. Its main office is located at # 96 Guirayan St., Barangay Dona Imelda, Quezon City. The foundation has 9 volunteers (mostly from the Office of Senator Trillanes) and 5 members of the Board of Trustees.
Its purposes among others, are: “to be a self-sustaining, nationally relevant service organization with a clear program of action for target beneficiaries; to assist the beneficiaries in times of crisis and promote resiliency in the communities and individual development of the youth; to increase awareness to individuals in calamity-prone areas about disaster preparedness and crisis management, and to promote prevention and resiliency; and to develop future leaders who are committed to nation building through academic scholarships”. Currently, the foundation’s programs focused on Educational grants to UP students.
