Caritas Manila, Inc. (CMI) was registered with the SEC as a non-stock, non-profit corporation on May 3, 1977 (SEC Reg. No. 73344) as the lead Catholic agency for social services and development in the Archdiocese of Manila. Caritas is an operating organization with current thrust in education and health & nutrition, However, it also undertakes other programs which include among others, socio-economic development program, Restorative Justice (paralegal assistance & prison assistance), Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Program, and Sanlakbay (healing, restoration & recovery of drug dependents and their families). The main office is located at 2002 Jesus St., Pandacan Manila.
Caritas currently has 21 regular employees, 59 part- time staff, 13 project- based staff, 146 engaged by Caritas Et Labora Human Resource Service Cooperative and 4,038 volunteers who run the projects mostly at the parish level.
There are 13 members of the Board of Trustees, 6 are Bishops and one is a Cardinal. The tenure of the Archbishop/Cardinal of Manila and the Bishops of suffragan dioceses is co-terminus with their positions.
It was certified for three (3) years on June 11, 2004 and which ended on June 11, 2007. On November 28, 2007, it was certified for five (5) years and which ended on November 27, 2012. It was again certified for 5 years on December 6, 2012 that ended on December 7, 2017.
The Foundation’s purpose is to be the Social Services and Development Ministry of the Church of the Poor. It exists for the total development of the urban poor in achieving fullness of life. The geographical scope of programs is nationwide.
