The Ateneo de Iloilo, Inc. was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as a non-stock, non-profit educational institution on December 19, 2003 by Filipino Jesuits to provide quality Catholic, Jesuit education. On May 22, 2010, the Board of Trustees of Santa Maria Catholic School (established in 1958 by Fr. Andrew Joliet and Fr. Santiago Leon, French Jesuits) and Ateneo de Iloilo, Inc. (the merging entities) approved the plan of merger of the two schools. Subsequently, during the annual meeting of the respective members of the merging entities, they ratified the resolution of their respective Board of Trustees authorizing the merger. On April 23, 2015, the School obtained approval from the SEC for the merger to be effective with Ateneo de Iloilo, Inc. as the surviving corporation. With the name Ateneo comes the commitment to deliver better curriculum, programs, services and facilities. Ateneo de Iloilo, Inc. is PAASCU Level 2 Accredited (2017-2022).
