The Bank of the Philippine Islands Foundation, Inc. is the social development arm of the Bank of the Philippines Islands, considered the oldest Bank in Southeast Asia. It is a non-stock, non-profit organization registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on May 17, 1978. It is a funding/grant-making and operating organization. It was initially created to be the bank’s financial conduit to the various publics (school, charitable organizations, socio-civic institutions, disaster operations, etc.). It later evolved into developing programs geared towards education, enterprise development, basic services cooperation and values formation. Its main office is located at 16th BPI Head Office, 6768 Ayala Avenue, Makati City.
Its purposes (V-M-G), among others, are: “It envisions the organization as the dynamic social development arm of the Bank of the Philippines Islands, responsive to the relevant needs of its communities and serving as a catalyst in corporate citizenry through the pursuit of relevant programs in education, livelihood, basic social services and values enhancement and the venue for its officers and employees for volunteering work”. Recently it added environmental advocacy in its programs. The Foundation’s program/project focused on: 1. Education (BPI DOST Science Awards, College Scholarships, BPI for Teachers); 2. Entrepreneurship (Show Me Teach Me, SME-Empowering Entrepreneurs, BPI-Ateneo Building Capacities for MFI’s, Partnership with ISEA for the development of learning materials for learners and trainers on social enterprise financial management); 3. Environment (Climate Change Risk Adaptation with WWF, Sustainability Partnership with Universities); 4. Volunteerism – officers and employees volunteering in various programs. Geographical scope: Nationwide.
